What are Filipino Martial Arts?

Filipino martial arts (FMA) is an umbrella term for the fighting systems that originated in the Philippines. Depending on lineage and region, they are also known as Kali, Eskrima (or Escrima) and Arnis: different names for the same tradition of stick and empty-hand fighting. Silat is the sibling art from Indonesia.

Pekiti Tirsia Kali in Morocco

We teach Pekiti Tirsia Kali (PTK), a complete Filipino martial arts system that comes from the Tortal family of the Visayas region and was spread worldwide by Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje Jr.

PTK relies on body positioning and footwork to control and neutralize an opponent, with weapons and empty hands alike.

Learning is progressive and develops coordination, timing and a sense of distance, from the basics to advanced work.

Who it's for

Anyone curious about Filipino martial arts, martial arts and combat sports in general, or simply looking for a complete physical and mental workout.

How we train

An open mind, mutual respect, and steady work. Learning a martial art takes discipline. We meet you where you are.

What you'll learn

From your first stick to advanced skill: weapon and empty-hand fighting, with skills that carry over to self-defense.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to start?

No. Classes are open to complete beginners as well as people coming from other martial arts. We start from your level.

Where do classes take place?

Outdoors, in local parks and on beaches around Rabat. Write to us for details.

What language are classes taught in?

We speak Arabic, English and French.

Kali, Eskrima, Arnis: what's the difference?

They are three names for the same family of Filipino martial arts. The name changes with region and lineage. We teach Pekiti Tirsia Kali.

Is Kali self-defense?

Not exactly. Self-defense is its own discipline, with a different mindset, method and goal. Kali is a martial art: it won't replace self-defense training, but if self-defense is your goal, it gives you the skills to learn it: distance, timing, footwork, coordination, and being at ease with a weapon as well as empty-handed.

Are classes in groups or private?

In small groups, so everyone gets real attention. Private lessons are available on request.

Is it a good workout, even without a martial arts goal?

Yes. Stick work and footwork engage the whole body: cardio, coordination, agility and reflexes. It also trains the mind: focus, memory for sequences and quick reactions. A complete activity, in the fresh air.
